Until 30 November, four craftspeople from the Fontainebleau region are showcasing their work their Marie-Antoinette-style croissant. A culinary idea from Fontainebleau Tourisme, promoted in association with the Château de Fontainebleau, to celebrate the Year of Marie-Antoinette, 240 years after the Queen’s last visit to Fontainebleau.
Which one will be your favourite? The easiest way is to have a look round. You can find the addresses and special features of each house on its Fontyblog page by clicking on its name.
Why a croissant for Marie-Antoinette? Because the queen was born an Archduchess of Austria, and the croissant is descended from the kipferl Viennese. The legend, the true story of the croissant, an anecdote about the brioche and the queen’s favourite treats: it’s all covered in our article Marie-Antoinette and the croissant: a story with many layers.
