Tucked away at the end of Rue Béranger, the Protestant church in Fontainebleau is the place of worship of the’United Protestant Church of Fontainebleau, Nemours and Montereau. We often walk past it without paying it any attention, which is a shame: it’s also one of the the city’s most intimate concert venues.
Acoustics designed for chamber music
Like many temples, the interior is unadorned, without elaborate decoration, and it is precisely this that makes it such a fine setting for music. Brass ensembles, choirs and chamber groups find a clear, warm sound here, in a venue on a human scale. The Pays de Fontainebleau Brass Quintet He performs, for example, at concerts organised by the Fontainebleau Lions Club.
A place open to all, beyond religious worship
The church hosts Sunday services, as well as concerts, talks and tours, particularly during European Heritage Days. You don’t need to be Protestant to pop in: the welcome is simple and warm, and each concert lists its admission details on its page.
Just a stone's throw from the centre
The temple is just a few minutes’ walk from Rue Grande and the castle, making it the perfect place to visit at the end of an afternoon in town. This page lists the concerts and events held there: for once, we’d advise you to look up from your phone and have a listen.
