Just a stone's throw from the forest that has given the block its name the world over, Karma is the climbing gym in Fontainebleau. Not just another climbing gym: the first FFME climbing gym open to the public in France, and the official training ground for the French bouldering team. Which says a lot about the level of openness you find here - without making the place intimidating.
Block and track, on two complete registers
Karma has it both ways. On the side block, It has 430 m² of climbing space, walls 3.5 to 4.5 m high and around a hundred boulders from easy to 8b+ that are regularly renewed. For more information, visit routes, A 12m-high wall of difficulty with 33 belay lines and 80 to 100 routes ranging from 4a to 8c. The openers are top-level climbers, including Jérémy Bonder. In short, you'll always find something to suit your level, whether modest or very high.
A venue that really welcomes beginners
The “place of sporting excellence” might sound scary, but it's actually the opposite. Karma organises every Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm an introductory session to belaying, at the price of a single entry (plus hire of equipment). For children, the’Espace Baby is open to children from the age of 3-4, and weekly classes and holiday courses are organised throughout the year. Karma-niversaire“ is also a classic for birthday parties like no other.
The forest's indoor counterpart
The real special feature of Karma is its geographical complicity with the forest. When it rains, when it gets dark too early, or when you want to warm up before a big session on the sandstone, you climb the steps of the Route Militaire. The gym is designed to be both a warm-up room for Bleau climbers and a local club open to all.
