At 44 Rue de France, At Sandro leads two lives under one roof. On the shop side, a Italian delicatessen where you can fill your basket with cold meats, cheeses and artisanal pasta. In the kitchen, a Italian caterer which prepares everything from the day’s lunch to a wedding buffet. And since the end of the summer, the house has been decked out in a very specific colour: Calabria.

The tip of the boot in the shop window

At the end of August, the shop reopened with a delivery of Calabrian products : the ‘nduja, that spreadable charcuterie that’s properly spicy, the guanciale, pork cheek – the real thing used in carbonara – and a salami from Abruzzo. The restaurant prides itself on a Calabrian speciality including its artisanal charcuterie, antipasti and main courses. In the chilled section, mozzarella, burrata, burratina, stracciatella and a smoked mozzarella plait. The company’s website states that the products are imported directly from Italian producers.

A quick Italian-style lunch

At lunchtime, Chez Sandro is a handy option for those in a hurry on Rue de France: the Italian dishes are reheated on the premises and the Focaccia can be topped with whatever you like. For home cooking, the shelves are stocked with artisanal pasta, homemade sauces, olive oils, balsamic vinegars and traditional biscuits. In the drinks section, the Prosecco and the limoncello are the order of the day. As Christmas approaches, it’s the artisan panettone which takes centre stage.

The caterer for large gatherings

The company’s other area of expertise is events. Weddings, birthdays, christenings, private parties and seminars : Chez Sandro creates buffets, cocktail receptions and sit-down meals featuring antipasti, fresh pasta, slow-cooked dishes and Italian desserts. The service extends from Fontainebleau and Avon as far as Milly-la-Forêt, Nemours and Melun, and you can request a quote online. For friends who’ve moved far away and miss their Italian grocer, the shop also dispatches parcels.
