Fontainebleau Forest is closed to the public until 7 August 2026 inclusive

Following the fires in July, prefectural decrees dated 29 July 2026 prohibit access to the Fontainebleau state-owned forest, regardless of the area, as well as to the state-owned forests of La Commanderie and Nanteau-Poligny, the communal forest of Nemours and the closed-off area of Les Trois-Pignons. Burnt roots weaken the trees, which may fall long after the fire has passed, and the ONF is continuing its surveys and safety work. The ban is likely to be extended: we are keeping an news feed on the forest fires in Fontainebleau.
