We live right next to them without even noticing. The fox crosses the garden at night, the badger digs a hundred metres from the path, and the weasel has taken up residence in the loft. From 9–11 October 2026, the’ANVL devotes three days to these neighbours at the Municipal theatre, with «Savages!».
The focus is on the sensory experience. The event is organised around two main themes. «Perceiving the world» Firstly: to see, hear, smell and move like a predator, whose senses are almost entirely different from our own. «Living in the world» Next: finding shelter, feeding themselves, moving about, raising their young, and coexisting with human activities – which is the real issue.
Fox, badger, wolf, stone marten, wildcat, bats, hedgehog, bear. Wolves and bears are not found here, but their return to France is shaping the public debate on the subject, and the ANVL is right not to shy away from it.
The’Association of Naturalists of the Loing Valley and the Fontainebleau Massif has been in existence since 1913. It is this organisation that documents the mountain range’s wildlife year after year, and its surveys serve as a benchmark. Given the summer the forest has just experienced, understanding how these fires are affecting the mammals that live there is not an abstract issue.
Workshops, sensory experiences, first-hand accounts, talks and screenings, spread over the three days. Detailed timetables and admission details will be published by the city and the association as the event approaches.
Programme on the’Fontainebleau Town Calendar. The Municipal Theatre is located at 9 Rue Denecourt.
