Visit 42 Rue Saint-Honoré, just a stone’s throw from the École des Mines, a 3D printer is shaping a figurine whilst a bright red laser cutter awaits its next job. This is the Moebius FabLab, and the Friday 9 October, from 5 pm to 9 pm, it opens its doors to anyone who wonders what goes on behind those windows.
Having moved into fully refurbished premises at the end of 2024, the charity has made the address a place dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship. Three areas to visit: the workshop, with its CNC milling machine, her laser cutterits 3D printers and its electronics workbenches, followed by the’co-working space and the training room. The event is an opportunity to meet the team and find out what they can offer you, whether you have a prototype in mind, a business you want to launch, or simply want to learn how to use a machine.
It’s also a good time to find out about the 2026–2027 season, which is tailor-made for Ages 12–18. On the programme: a programming course every other Saturday morning, from Scratch to Python, and workshops Sumo-bots where you build a robot to push your opponent out of the ring – the challenge Astro Pi to plan an experiment to be carried out on board the International Space Station, and this year’s big new development, the Rocketry Challenge. The idea is for teams to design a mini black-powder rocket and then launch it for real at Villaroche Airfield. It’s the perfect opportunity to bring along a curious teenager and come away with a Wednesday activity that doesn’t involve a games screen.
Those who prefer listening to tinkering will remember the FabLab Moebius Science Café, a free monthly lecture with a researcher, in partnership with the Mines Paris library and the CNRS. Details of activities, prices and membership can be found on the the Moebius FabLab website in Fontainebleau.
