An hour to understand, an hour to discuss. Once a month, the Moebius FabLab invites a researcher to talk about their subject to anyone who is interested, at the 38 Rue Saint-Honoré, within the walls of the’École des Mines de Paris in Fontainebleau. It is free and open to all, and the format remains the same: a presentation lasting around an hour, followed by a genuine discussion with the audience.
The cycle is fitted with the Mines Paris Library and the CNRS, and that’s evident in the programme. We discussed’the ethics of generative AI with the physicist and philosopher Alexei Grinbaum, from deepfakes and post-truth with Camille Salinesi, from the Industrial Materials Mechanics department, from ice cream to aeroplane engines, featuring Samuel Forest, or on sustainable development with the philosopher Pierre Caye at the start of the new academic year. Specialised topics, presented by those driving them forward, and a room where people feel free to put their hands up.
Speakers are announced as and when they are confirmed on the Programme for the FabLab Moebius Science Café. Admission is free, but registration – which is also free – is strongly recommended to help the team organise the event.
And to see the workshop itself, its machinery and its robot and rocket projects, head to the Moebius FabLab open evening.
