Whilst the château celebrates Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI, the Royal Charity continues the journey through the Age of Enlightenment with the exhibition «The Art of Living in the 18th Century: The Elegance of the Decorative Arts», the 10 October to 15 November, in the Atelier Hall.
The list is quite mind-boggling: furniture, works of art, bronzes, porcelain, ceramics, silverware, carpets, tapestries, sculptures, paintings, drawings, engravings, but also some civilian clothingand military uniformsand scientific instruments, books and documents. Enough to recreate the lifestyle of an era when the chest of drawers, the writing desk and the wing chair were first invented, and when even the humblest everyday object was designed to be beautiful.
It’s the perfect way to round off a visit to the’‘Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI’ exhibition at the château : the royal apartments on one side, the way of life of an entire society on the other, a ten-minute walk along Rue Royale.
Free entry, during the media centre’s opening hours. Opening on Thursday 8 October at 7.30 pm. Charité Royale, 15 Rue Royale.
