She collects dead wood in the Forest of Fontainebleau and grafts it onto unglazed red sandstone. The result is a little world of figures and animals, in autumnal colours. Cathy Lagarrigue explains «Encounter with the Forest» à FLC, the 10 October to 27 November 2026.
The technique is simple and it works: combining a fired, dense, permanent material with something picked up from the ground, to which it gives a new lease of life. The ceramicist works on Saint-Martin-en-Bière, on the edge of the mountain range, and that is where her material comes from. It is not a theme she has chosen from a catalogue; it is the ground on which she lives.
The route includes a video projection installationand suspensions, a study on the shadows and a layer of mulch on the ground. In other words, as you walk through it, the projected images create a shifting backdrop around the artworks. Following the summer the Fontainebleau Forest has experienced, an exhibition born of what the forest provides and what it has just lost takes on a significance it would not have had a year ago.
Input free of charge, the Monday to Friday, 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm, at FLC, 6 rue du Mont Ussy. The exhibition runs for seven weeks, which gives you plenty of time, but as it’s open on weekdays only (excluding Saturdays), you’ll need to allow time for a lunch break.
