A brass band consists of around twenty brass instruments and percussion; it is a tradition that originated in British industrial towns in the 19th century, and its sound is unrivalled in an Italian-style concert hall. The 17 and 18 October 2026the Municipal theatre launches «Brass & Bleau», and that’s free of charge.
The concert on Saturday 17 October at 8.00 pm, that of the Sunday 18th at 4 pm. Alongside this, there will be entertainment, meet-ups, introductory workshopsand masterclasses and concerts. The ensembles are from the region and draw on the British tradition.
Fontainebleau has a strong tradition of musical harmony, thanks to the Union Musicale, the Conservatoire and the town’s historic military presence. A festival dedicated to brass music fits perfectly into this context. And for its first edition, the decision to make it entirely free is the right one: it removes the only real barrier for an audience that doesn’t yet know whether they’ll enjoy it.
Free entry, but limited places depending on the venue’s capacity. For a free event in an Italian-style theatre on a Saturday evening, it’s best to arrive early rather than leave it to chance. Introductory workshops offer the chance to put an instrument into a child’s hands without committing to a year at a music school.
Full programme on the’Fontainebleau Town Calendar. Municipal Theatre, 9 Rue Denecourt.
