It has been in existence for over seventy years, yet many of those affected are still unaware that it takes place. The Blue Week, National Week for Pensioners and Older People, takes place from 5–11 October 2026 à Fontainebleau and Avon, for its 75th edition.
«Let’s bring all age groups together in communities that are making a difference». Behind the official wording lies a practical idea: to get older people out of the situation where they only mix with others of their own age group, and to reconnect them with the rest of the city. It is also a response to isolation, which remains the real issue.
The Fontainebleau and Avon Community Social Action Centre (CCAS) are joining forces for the week, with sport and healthand workshopsand visitsand walks and outings and one tea dance. Everything is free of charge. It makes sense for the two towns to work together here: between Fontainebleau and Avon, the administrative boundary is irrelevant in the day-to-day lives of the residents.
If you have an elderly relative in the area, this is the time of year when signing up is easiest and there’s the widest range of activities on offer. A busy week in October often leads to signing up for a regular activity for the rest of the year, and that’s the real benefit.
