We all know we should eat better. What we’re less sure about is where to start when money’s tight, time’s short and the kitchen’s mainly just for reheating food. That’s exactly the question posed by «Health on your plate», a series of nine cookery workshops organised by the association Les Colibris Solidaires from Avon, Fontainebleau and the Sud 77 area, on Wednesdays, at Bréau Kitchens, Rue des Rossignols.
The course is structured like a real journey. First, we lay the foundations the basics of a healthy diet, we move on to the fruit and vegetables, and then to the proteins, and to the carbohydrates, fats and healthy fats. Next come the topics that cause a bit of a stir: cut down on sugar, salt and ultra-processed foods.
Once you’ve got to grips with the theory, it’s time to put it into practice: put together a balanced meal, then light, simple and quick cooking, because a good habit that takes two hours to form won’t last a week. Each workshop lasts the whole day: time to cook for real, to taste the food, and to leave with recipes to try out at home.
Each workshop takes place from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.
You don’t need to bring any equipment: All kitchen utensils are provided. The workshops include vegan, vegetarian and food-intolerance-friendly options, and they are open to everyone, in an atmosphere that the organisation aims to make friendly and supportive. The aim of Colibris Solidaires is simple: to show that a balanced diet is one of the best ways to to prevent illness and improve quality of life, without any diet or moralising.
The cycle ends with a exam preparation workshop, and then by the ‘Health on a Plate’ cooking competition at the Bréau kitchens : a starter, a main course or a healthy dessert, presented to a panel of judges which includes the Mayor of Fontainebleau, with some great prizes to be won.
To the Bréau’s teaching kitchens, rue des Rossignols, 77300 Fontainebleau, in the Bréau neighbourhood.
Free entry : the project is funded by the Seine-et-Marne CPAM (the Health Insurance Scheme), with the support of the Town of Fontainebleau.
