People walk, cycle and picnic here, but they often forget that the Fontainebleau forest is above all an immense wilderness. L’Tourist Office is offering a guided tour of in the footsteps of its discreet inhabitantsthe Saturday 13 June 2026 at 2pm.

A fauna you can guess at more than you can see

Covering 25,000 hectares, the forest is home to deer, roe deer, wild boar, foxes, Not to mention a multitude of birds, insects and small mammals. Most remain invisible to the hasty walker. But they leave signs everywhere: footprints in the sand, smears on tree trunks, drips in ferns, meal remains. But you still need to know how to spot them.

Learning to read the forest

That's the whole point of this walk, accompanied by a nature guide It's an ideal family outing that changes the way you look at the paths you thought you knew best: deciphering the clues, distinguishing a deer footprint from that of a wild boar, understanding the habits of animals and the way they shape the landscape. An ideal family outing that changes the way you look at paths you thought you knew by heart.
