A dented saucepan, a crate, a garden tool: at Philippe Mothe, even the most ordinary objects become subjects for engraving. His exhibition is entitled «Modest Odes», with a subtitle that says it all: a celebration of the ordinary things in life. It takes place at the Arts Bridge, the gallery opposite the town hall in Samois-sur-Seine.
After drawing and painting, Philippe Mothe turned to printmaking about ten years ago. He practises engraver in various forms: drypoint, etching and aquatint. As noted by L’Yonne Républicaine at its exhibition «La ballade du banal» In 2024, he enjoys exploring the same subject using two different techniques, which demonstrates the full richness of printmaking. By celebrating crates, household utensils and bookcases, he creates a portrait, in relief, of those who use them.
An exhibition best viewed up close, to appreciate the texture of the paper and the delicacy of the lines. The opening takes place on Saturday 7 November at 6.00 pm, in the presence of the artist.
Open on Fridays and Saturdays from 3 pm to 7 pm, and on Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm.
A few words are enough, I reply personally.
