We think we know it off by heart, and it makes us laugh every time. Harpagon moves to the’Âne Vert Théâtre with «The Miser» from Molière, organised by the Naphralytep Company, the theatre’s company-in-residence, the Saturday 28 November at 7.30 pm and the Sunday 29 November at 5.00 pm.
Harpagon jealously guards his chest of money and his ten thousand gold écus. He intends to force his daughter to marry a sixty-year-old gentleman, his son to a widow whom the latter does not want, and covets for himself a young woman forty years his junior, chiefly for her dowry. Molière’s masterpiece is a laugh-a-minute from start to finish, but there is something dizzying about Harpagon’s avarice, and that is precisely what makes it so fascinating to see it performed on a stage on a human scale.
