Fontainebleau is hosting a national competition Chinese martial arts. The French Karate Federation, which also manages the wushu, is organising at the Lucien Martinel Gymnasium her French Sanda Light Cup, included in its season’s programme 2026-2027.
Le sanda is the competitive form of wushu: a kick-and-punch contest contested whilst wearing a helmet, gloves and chest protector, as shown on the poster. The Sanda Light This is the dedicated competition format, which has its own national circuit, featuring open tournaments and regional qualifiers throughout the year. The Coupe de France is one of the national events, and clubs are already encouraging their competitors to register for it.
For the public, this is a rare opportunity to get a close-up look at a combat sport that is mostly familiar from the cinema, during a national competition. Two days to discover the sport, cheer on the clubs and understand what’s at stake on the mat.
The official information can be found at the Sanda Light French Cup page on the French Karate Federation’s website.
A few words are enough, I reply personally.
