As part of its “Italian Culture Encounters”, the association FLC - Fontainebleau Loisirs Culture, in partnership with the association Ciné-Bleau, invites you to a special screening and debate at the Ermitage cinema.
Directed in 1970 by Vittorio De Sica, The Finzi-Contini Garden (Il giardino dei Finzi Contini) is adapted from the autobiographical novel by Giorgio Bassani. The film won the’Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival (1971) and the’Oscar for Best Foreign Film (1972). Buoyed by the remarkable performances of Dominique Sanda, Lino Capolicchio and Helmut Berger, It remains one of the most poignant films ever made about the rise of fascism in Italy.
Italy, 1938. As the Fascist regime gradually adopts anti-Semitic measures, the Finzi-Continis, a large aristocratic Jewish family from Ferrara, take refuge behind the walls of their immense estate. In this garden paradise, the young people play tennis, study, debate and fall in love... while the outside world inexorably closes in on them. Young Giorgio, from a more modest family, is madly in love with the beautiful Micòl, who rejects him with enigmatic tenderness.
Film in VOSTF (original version with French subtitles).
This screening is the second in a series of three film debates devoted to Italian cinema, organised by FLC and Ciné-Bleau since November 2025.
