Le Monday 23 November at 8.00 pmthe cinéma l'Ermitage is hosting an extraordinary evening: a meeting with members of the Shuar people, from Ecuador, followed by a screening of the documentary Arutam, from Julien Belin. An evening organised by the association Raíces and the’ANVL, the Loing Valley and Fontainebleau Massif Naturalists’ Association.
The Shuar Maikiuants live in the heart of the Condor Mountain Range, a still-unspoilt region between Ecuador and Peru. Their culture and identity have their roots in this forest, and they defend it every day. As custodians of knowledge passed down through the centuries, they maintain a connection with nature and spirituality that our modern lifestyles have often lost sight of. Their visit to Fontainebleau forms part of a European tour.
The documentary Arutam (52 minutes) is devoted to them. It invites viewers to listen to and observe the forest through their own eyes, and to reconnect with some fundamental values. The ANVL’s choice is by no means a coincidence: from the Forest of Fontainebleau to the Amazon rainforest, the question remains the same – how to live in harmony with the environment without depleting it.
There will be three guests in the room: Ipiaknua Antun, guardian of ancestral knowledge, Pinchu Ankuash, leader of the Shuar Maikiuants community, and Julien Defourny, international spokesperson for the Shuar people.
Tickets can be booked at the ticket office or on the website for the discussion sessions at the L’Ermitage cinema. You can also find the the L’Ermitage cinema page on Fontyblog.
A few words are enough, I reply personally.
