Le Friday 11 September at 8.00 pmthe Ermitage cinema, 6 Rue de France, Avon, is planning «The Sea» from Shai Carmeli Pollack, in the presence of the director. The session is organised and supported by the League for Human Rights.
The film is being shot in Arabic and Hebrew, the result of collaboration between Israeli and Palestinian teams, and it was carried out before 7 October 2023. From Ramallah to Tel Aviv, he follows the everyday lives of people on both sides of the checkpoints, and champions every child’s right to grow up and dream in peace.
«The Sea» was five-time winner at the Ophir Awards, the Israeli equivalent of the César Awards. Mohammad Ghazawi, who plays the lead role, won the Best Actor award there, and Khalifa Natour, who plays his father, the winner of the Best Supporting Actor award. The film also won the awards for the Best Film and Best Screenplay, and has been chosen to represent Israel at the 2025 Oscars. Its selection has sparked fierce political controversy in the country, with the Israeli government withdrawing its funding for the Ophir Awards ceremony.
