To make summer last a little longer, Fontainebleau is revamping its patron saint’s festival and staging it against a backdrop that’s hard to beat: the The Castle’s Grand Canal. Le Sunday 30 August 2026, from 10.00 am to 9.00 pm, the Fête de la Saint-Louis brings the grand festivals of yesteryear back to life – on the water, on the grass and, above all, with the family.
On the canal, we board pedalos for a walk, and we come across the Saint-Mammès Water Sports Festival, a spectacle of skill and folklore that has been performed continuously since 1884. As for the music, the theatrical brass band The Grooms appears as you round the corners of the paths at 2.30 pm and again at 6 pm, with his quirky and poetic performances.
For families, the day is packed with activities: an introduction to badminton, a ballet by kites (including making your own), swings from the 1930s encouraged by their parents, and a giant airbag for those who love jumping (aged 6 and over).
The highlight of the evening: from 7 pm to 9 pm, make way for the big one open-air picnic. You bring your own basket (or grab something from the food trucks), and you make sure the «white and gold» dress code», and we dance to the music of the Sunny Side Quintet, with our feet almost in the water. Please remember to take your rubbish away with you to help keep this stunning setting clean.
The full programme is available on the Fontainebleau Town Council website.
