Saint Fiacre’s Day in Avon: gardeners’ procession (30 August 2026)

Saint Fiacre is the patron saint of gardeners and market gardeners, and Avon pays tribute to him on Sunday 30 August 2026, from 4 pm to 6 pm. It is a low-key, deeply rooted neighbourhood festival, which takes the form of a procession through the town rather than a static gathering.

The route

The departure point is at the Les Sources Vives Media Centre (27 Rue du Vieux Ru). From there, the procession makes its way up to the statue of Saint Fiacre, Rue de la République, then we go via the garden «A garden for two hands», at the junction of Rue Clemenceau and Rue Vallée de Changis, before reaching the Bel-Ébat community vegetable garden (2 Avenue de Nemours). The afternoon ends with a afternoon tea on the manor house forecourt.

A tradition that says as much about the neighbourhood as it does about the saint

What makes the Saint-Fiacre festival so appealing is that it takes in a series of places that most people aren’t familiar with, even if they live in Avon: a shared garden, a community vegetable patch, a statue that you walk past without even noticing. The event is organised in partnership with local organisations Lyrics: Maraîchers and CultureS & Co, and it offers the chance to meet the people who bring these places to life throughout the rest of the year.
