In Fontainebleau, the National Day has a distinctive flavour. The town is the the only one in Île-de-France, apart from Paris, for having revived the traditional military parade, which over the years has become a source of pride for the people of Bellifontaine. In 2026, the event is scheduled for 13 July.

Throughout the day, the parade of troops is accompanied by a vintage car parade, from historical re-enactments, exhibitions and a wide range of events in the town centre. There’s something to keep young and old alike entertained, combining military curiosities with a festive atmosphere.

The evening draws to a close in a convivial atmosphere, with a a picnic and a band in Place de la République. This is the moment many people look forward to most: you spread out your tablecloth, share a meal, and enjoy one of those rare evenings when the whole city comes together in one place. It’s a very French tradition, which foreign visitors love to experience.

The ceremony is free of charge and open to everyone. Full details of the programme are published on the Fontainebleau Town Council website.
