Picking up litter on a Sunday morning doesn’t sound like much of a leisure activity. Yet it’s one of the most rewarding outings of the year, and after the summer the mountain range has had, the 2026 edition of #ForêtBelle has a special significance. The weekend of the 26 and 27 September 2026the SMICTOM for the Fontainebleau region is organising its eighth operation collection.

Sunday’s high-impact operation

The highlight takes place on Sunday 27 September, from 9am to 12 noon, on the’Avenue de Fontainebleau (D607), between the Croix du Grand Veneur and the Carrefour de la Libération. The road is closed to traffic for the occasion, which makes it possible to clean up the verges safely: this is precisely where cans, packaging and rubbish thrown out of car windows tend to accumulate. Volunteers are stationed on both sides of the road to Friends of the Fontainebleau Forest and SMICTOM, with the support of the’ONF.

What to bring

Gloves and a high-visibility vest : All other equipment, including bags and pliers, is provided on site. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. The event is open to everyone, free of charge, with no registration required, and suitable for children accompanied by an adult, provided they stay within the marked areas.

A delay linked to the elections

The operation usually takes place in the spring. It has been postponed until the autumn this year due to the municipal election schedule. Around thirty other collection points are being set up across the SMICTOM area over the same weekend, with a map of the locations available online via the authority.

Parking

As the D607 is closed, please plan to park at the exit from Fontainebleau, in the car park for the annual Christmas tree sale, and then walk to the visitor centre.

All the information and a map of collection points on the SMICTOM’s ‘ForêtBelle’ page for the Fontainebleau region, or on the freephone number 0800 133 895.
