Antoine Richard was born in Fontainebleau on 8 September 1960. In August 1986, in Aix-les-Bains, he ran the 100 metres in 10.09 seconds and set a new French record, knocking Roger Bambuck off the record books. Six years earlier, in Moscow, he had stood on the Olympic podium as part of the 4 × 100 relay team.

On 8 September 1966, NBC broadcast the first episode of *Star Trek*. That was exactly sixty years ago to the day. The series was cancelled after three seasons due to low viewing figures. And his greatest success began on the day of his death: It was only after it had been cancelled – and the episode was shown on a loop by local television stations – that it attracted the audience NBC had failed to secure for it. Without those repeats, there would have been no films, no franchise.
