Presentation

Le Sunday 20 September at 5 pm, l'Laudate Dominum Ensemble is giving a concert at the’Saint-Louis church, Rue de la Paroisse in Fontainebleau. On the programme for this season is a work that has been filling churches for a century and a half: «A German Requiem» from Johannes Brahms.

A requiem for the living

What is distinctive about the German Requiem is that it turns its back on the Latin liturgy for the dead. Brahms himself chose the texts – in German – from Luther’s Bible, and focused them on bringing comfort to those left behind rather than on the judgement of those who have passed away. The result is a work that is strangely gentle and luminous for a requiem, and one that is greatly enhanced when heard in a church setting rather than in a concert hall.

The performers

The ensemble performs under the direction of its choir director Sergio Morales, accompanied on the piano by Mathys Rodrigues, featuring the soloists Léna Brisson, soprano, and Agustín Pérez Escalante, baritone.

A second event in Avon, the day before

The concert in Saint-Louis brings a short three-date tour to a close. The day before, Saturday 19 September at 6.00 pm, the ensemble performs the same programme at the’St Paul’s Church, Avon, ten minutes from Fontainebleau. So anyone who isn’t free on a Sunday can attend a catch-up session near their home. The tour kicks off on Sunday 13 September at 5.00 pm at Saint-Étienne Cathedral in Sens.
