We tend to think summer is over for butterflies, but that’s a misconception: daytime butterflies are becoming scarcer, whilst night-flying ones are taking over. The Saturday 12 September, from 8.30 pm to 10.30 pm, the taster workshop «Moths in autumn colours» invites you to spend two hours on the bright side of darkness.
The evening is hosted by Antoine Kita, a naturalist from the’Association of Naturalists of the Loing Valley and the Fontainebleau Massif, an organisation that has been documenting the mountain range for over a century. Each month brings its own species, and those seen in September have colourings and shapes that are not seen in June. The evenings are already cool, but the moths are still out and about.
The workshop forms part of the implementation of the’Atlas of Biodiversity in the Municipality of Fontainebleau. In other words, what we observe that evening contributes to a body of knowledge that will subsequently inform the council’s planning decisions. We watch butterflies, and we help to compile an inventory.
Free, suitable for all ages, registration required, up to a limit of 20 places. Registration is now open until Thursday 10 September, by email to [email protected], stating your town of residence.
