From 1987, INSEAD invites the residents of Bellifontaine to attend free of charge at its lecture theatre on Boulevard de Constance to hear from world-class researchers and practitioners. Once a month, the prestigious business school opens its doors to the town. Le Thursday 15 October at 8.30 pm, Bruno Palier raises the following question: «A loss of meaning and a sense of unease at work: how can we restore confidence and improve working conditions?»
Bruno Palier is Research Director at the CNRS, at Sciences Po Paris. He has been working for years on social policies and changes in the world of work in Europe, which sets him quite apart from the usual managerial discourse on wellbeing in the workplace. A loss of meaning, the ‘quiet resignation’, difficulties in recruiting across entire sectors: these are measurable facts, not mere impressions, and he makes them the focus of his research.
The topic resonates with everyone, from the executive who catches the 7.12 am train to Paris to the shopkeeper on Rue Grande who’s struggling to retain his staff. It’s also one of the few evenings of the year when you can put the question to someone whose job it is to explore it in depth.
