Every spring, the Grand Parquet de Fontainebleau opens the equestrian season with an event that combines top-level sport and military tradition. From 11 to 15 March 2026, the’Military Riding School (EME) is organising its traditional Military Eventing, Five days of free competition open to the public.
The history of military riding at Fontainebleau dates back to Francis I, It was here that the king decided to set up his hunting stables on the site of the Carrousel district. Over the centuries, the site has never ceased to be home to horses. Visit 1807, Napoleon I commissioned the construction of a riding school, whose overturned ship's hull frame is now a listed historic monument. It is one of the few places in France to have retained its original equestrian vocation.
The EME, heir to the Military Riding Sports Centre (CSEM), is housed within these historic walls with more than 200 horsepower. Its riders regularly represent France at major international eventing competitions, and the school has hosted the 23rd World Military Equestrian Championship here at the Grand Parquet.
The week is divided into two parts. The first two days are devoted to Young horse classes (classical cycles 4, 5 and 6 years old, free cycles), an exciting time to see future champions in action. From Wednesday, it's on to the categories Amateur (Amateur 4 to Amateur Elite) and Pro (Pro 2 to Pro 4), with the best rider-horse pairs on the French military scene.
The eventing competition combines three disciplines over several days: the trainingthe cross-country (outdoor natural obstacle course) and the show jumping. It's the triathlon of equestrianism, and the Grand Parquet offers ideal terrain for all three phases.
The entrance is free of charge. Le Grand Parquet Equestrian Stadium is located Route d'Orléans, Fontainebleau. Parking available on site.
