At 93 rue Grande, in the courtyard on the right, Sabine has made the gallery Fontainebleau a tipping point between the street and the art gallery: a place where graffiti and street art lay down their weapons to hang quietly on the walls, between a coffee and a work to take away. It's in this setting, familiar to art lovers in Bellifontaine, that the exhibition Urban Art in series.
The idea behind the exhibition is clear: a series of signed and numbered prints, These are exhibited by the artists themselves, making urban art accessible to a much wider audience than the originals. There are bold colours, taut typography, unapologetic messages and a graffiti energy that always seems to spill out of the frame. The idea isn't to watch from afar: it's to be able to walk away with a piece under your arm.
The exhibition is in keeping with the gallery's editorial line since it opened at the end of 2020: to bring contemporary street art into dialogue with a local public who are not told any stories. The vernissage took place on 4 April in an atmosphere that reflects the spirit of the place: free admission, coffee, and artists who talk straight about their work.
The exhibition is open Fridays and Saturdays from 1pm, until 30 June. For groups who would like a immersive guided tour At other times, the team offers bookable slots. This is probably the best way to understand what distinguishes a signed print from a simple reproduction, and why street art has long since left the walls of the street to enter the homes of collectors.
